Meth Epidemic

I think that some drugs should be legalized for medical issues or something that will have a good outcome in the end. Drugs can be extremely addictive but a lot of times people use it to feel the "rush" or when they are depressed and need to get away from the real world(get high and not think about anything). I think that if we made all drugs illegal, it would make many people start using/dealing them more and more and it would cause people to break the law. There should just be an age limit like there is one for the no drinking under age 21 law. I feel that drugs like weed should be legalized because it would let stores start selling it in pharmacies and that would cause drug dealers to stop selling on the streets out of business. I think that would help the nation because there wouldn't be so many people trying to sneak drugs into America from the border. There also wouldn't be so many drug wars going on along the border either. Considering everything that's going on with drugs, I think that some drugs should be legalized but also have restrictions on the negative ones like crystal meth. Actions will be taken if people express their thoughts on drug legalizations.

food inc

I felt that this movie surprised me. I didn’t realize a lot of the terrible things that go on in the food industry and our own government. Our nation’s food supply is being controlled by corporations that are often putting profit in front of the consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and out on environment.

One of the things from the video that really surprised me and actually grossed me out was that even if there is just one sick cow, instead of killing it and disposing the carcass away from the meat, they just put it’s meat with all of the other fresh and clean meat. Also we now have chickens that are being bred to be fully-grown in just a couple of weeks. That was causing a major problem for their little bodies because a lot of them were dying from their living environment and their organs were becoming too large for their tiny bodies. Also, in Food Inc., its filmmaker Robert Kenner shows us that we now have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, and even tomatoes that won’t go bad. The negative effects that were discovered are the new strains of E. coli, which is the harmful bacterium that has been causing illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. There is a widespread of obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

I didn’t know that illegal immigrants sneak to America to work for the farms. I felt bad because they were trying to work and earn money to provide for their children and families. The lady whose son had died from E -Coli also made me sad. She brought it to the government’s eyes to see what farmers are putting in their meat and where it’s all going and who its hurting. They didn’t really do anything at all which made me upset. It showed the secrets that the government is really hiding from all Americans.

I think that the government needs to redirect their views to the organic industry to start investing in those companies. I think that I can help by making most of my food purchases organic, or work on my family’s garden. If everyone could try getting into the habit of purchasing organic foods, things may slowly begin to change.

Industrial Agriculture

Industrial agriculture is a form of modern farming that refers to the industrialized production of livestock. It uses innovation in agricultural machinery and farming methods like genetic technology, techniques for achieving economies of sale in production, the creation of new markets for consumption, the application of patent protection to genetic information, and global trade. Most of the meat, dairy, eggs, fruits, and vegetables available in supermarkets are produced using these methods of industrial agriculture.
Some benefits of this were that if you look at 30,000 years ago, hunter- gatherer behavior fed about six million people. About 3,000 years ago the primitive agriculture method fed 60 million people, and 300 years ago with the method of intensive agriculture only fed about 600 million people. Today with industrial agriculture, this method feeds about six billion people. A negative effect of industrial agriculture is that it uses huge amounts of water, energy, and industrial chemicals; increasing pollution in the arable land, useable water and atmosphere. Herbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, and animal waste products are accumulating in ground and surface waters. Many negative effects are remote from fields to farms. Nitrogen compounds from the Midwest for example, travel down the Mississippi to degrade coastal fisheries in the Gulf of Mexico. Other adverse effects are within the agricultural production systems, for example the rapidly developing resistance among pests is rendering our arsenal of herbicides and insecticides increasingly ineffective.
A way to stop this is by using Organic farming methods. Organic farming methods combine some aspects of scientific knowledge and highly limited modern technology with traditional farming practices. It is accepting some of the methods of industrial agriculture while rejecting others. Organic methods rely on naturally occurring biological processes, which often take place over extended periods of time, and a holistic approach, while chemical-based farming focuses on immediate, isolated effects and reduction strategies.

Decision making Models

The first decision-making model I found is the Ultimate Decision Making Process. This decision making process is determined by who you are. Who you are not just determines what you think, but how you think. This model puts YOU first. You not only get to choose the best option, but the option you choose also strengthens the structural foundation from which you make future decisions. There is only one question to answer in this decision-making process.
If I do x, will it allow me to more so be who I want to be, or not?

Another decision- making model is the Rational decision- making model. It lets you solve your problem by having you define goals and objectives, defining the problem, generating, analyzing, and evaluating the possible solutions and alternatives for the outcome. This model contains a number of assumptions. The problem clarity for example has the decision maker have complete information regarding the situation, and giving the maker possible consents in order to solve his or her problem in the most rational way as possible.
